The popularity and social impact of MASH can’t be denied. It is one of the most widely syndicated TV series in the world.

The long running series premiered in 1972 and ended in 1983. Until 2010, the finale was the most watched in television history. Very impressive. Yet, as a child, I HATED it…I’d hear the theme song and want to cry because I knew there was no way I’d get to watch Little House on the Prairie or Wonder Woman. 

During MASH’s heyday, I spent most of my allotted television time trying to get my family to watch something else; anything else. There was nothing funny to me about that show.  I didn’t get the jokes, all the actors were 150 years old,…

M*A*S*H

M*A*S*H was a true ensemble series. Whilst characters such as Kellye, Igor, Rizzo, Goldman and Ginger are listed where they appear as specific characters central to the plot, they also appeared regularly as non-speaking cast members. This is also true of many of the nurses, corpsmen, orderlies and drivers listed as guest stars.

Marcus Welby, M.D.

These are the cases of Marcus Welby and Steven Kiley, a Santa Monica Family Doctor and his young partner. At a time when doctors still made house calls, Marcus Welby, M.D. was both entertaining and informative. Welby is able to address many of the health issues of the era while also helping to educate the viewing public at the same time. It was the highest-rated show in prime time for the 1970-1971 season.

MDs

Private Practice

A spin-off of the highly popular ABC series, Grey's Anatomy starring Kate Walsh as Dr. Addison Forbes Montgomery, a renowned neonatal surgeon. Quincy, M.E, a man who must have been a nightmare to work with! Quincy was a crusading Medical Examiner in Los Angeles, an expert at his job he was always capable of finding something that everyone else missed. A small clue that would go against all the rest of the evidence in a case and would lead to him arguing with his boss, Asten, and/or the investigating detective, nearly always Monahan.

Rescue 77

RESCUE 77 is the Search and Rescue unit of Station 77 of the Los Angeles Fire Department. This fine show aired on the WB in the spring of 1999. In fact in the beginning the WB aired this series twice a week and then they lost faith in the program and it was quickly cancelled. "Resuce 77" was truely a quality show that made Richard Roundtree return to series television.

Rescue 911

Rescue 911 was a reality show hosted by William Shatner. It consisted of re-enactments of real life emergency situations and documentaries of hospitals, police, and firefighters. It ran for seven seasons on CBS from 1989 to 1996.

Rescue Me

Rescue Me revolves around the lives of the men in a New York City firehouse, the crew of 62 Truck. Examining the fraternal nature and relationships of firefighters, the series tackles the daily drama of the life-and-death situations associated with being a firefighter, while exploring the ways the men use dark humor to protect their true emotions.

Royal Pains

In ROYAL PAINS, after one moral decision in the ER costs him everything, young doctor Hank Lawson becomes an on-call doctor for the rich, famous, and infamous. Anyone who's anyone in the Hamptons has a lawyer on retainer. Now meet the newest accessory – the concierge doctor.

St. Elsewhere

St. Eligius Hospital in South Boston was not exactly the world's best health care center. Despite its flaws, it featured some of the most caring doctors and nurses you could ever meet. Led by Dr. Donald Westphall (and later by Dr. Benjamin Gideon), St. Eligius became a sanctuary for the underdog and the downtrodden. "St. Elsewhere" ran on NBC for six seasons.
