Types of diagnostic errors in neurological emergencies in the emergency department
Although we cannot make any conclusions about the frequency of misdiagnoses of patients with neurological problems, we have identified some of the reasons behind misdiagnosis, some of which suggest certain solutions. The most common causes of error in our study were knowledge gaps, which result from education deficits about the conditions that were misdiagnosed.

Neurologic Emergencies at the Extremes of Age
On the opposite end of the age spectrum, older adults disproportionately require emergency care, and the combination of geriatric physiologic changes with increased comorbidities leads to atypical presentations and worsened outcomes.
Neurologic emergencies in pregnancy
Pregnant women presenting with neurologic emergencies can have several simultaneous neuropathologies (especially preeclampsia, PRES, and RCVS). Thus, detection of one pathology doesn't exclude the possibility of additional simultaneous problems.
Common neurologic emergencies for nonneurologists: When minutes count
Neurologic emergencies arise frequently and, if not diagnosed and treated quickly, can have devastating results, with high rates of long-term disability and death. Prompt recognition is an important skill.

Neurologic emergencies arise frequently and, if not diagnosed and treated quickly, can have devastating results, with high rates of long-term disability and death. Prompt recognition is an important skill. This article provides detailed analyses of acute stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, status epilepticus, and other neurologic emergencies for physicians who are not neurologists.

Posterior Circulation Strokes: Why do we miss them, and how do we improve?
The presenting signs and symptoms of posterior circulation stroke are often non-specific and fluctuating, adding to the challenge in making the diagnosis
What to do in neurologic emergencies

Neurological Emergencies Treatment Trials (NETT) Network
Acute neurologic disorders, relative to their effect on society, have been very poorly studied. Many of these neurological problems require emergent evaluation and treatment, ideally by a multi-disciplinary team. The NETT network has been established to address just these issues as the discovery and implementation of effective treatments for neurological emergencies will require sophisticated study protocols derived from large-scale clinical trials.
