Rolfing
When the body gets working appropriately, the force of gravity can flow through. Then, spontaneously, the body heals itself - Ida P Rolf PhD

Rolfing Ten Series: Session Five
I’ve tried physical therapy, chiropractic, acupuncture, Pilates, sacro-wedgies (further info on request), yoga, weekly massage, cortisone shots (well, just one), hip-strengthening machines, ice, heat, and I’m sure I’m forgetting something else. Hip, back, leg: still hurt. Sometimes more, sometimes less, but never gone.
Rolfing feels different, somehow. It felt very different last week, when all my bones and muscles and tendons were complaining. I’ve worked so hard all these years, my body says, to let you walk so stiffly. I’ve immobilized your sacrum, tightened up your psoas, ignored that nutty Atlas vertebra in your neck – and now all of a sudden you want me to loosen up? Well,…

How a Mysterious Body Part Called Fascia Is Challenging Medicine
Fascia is a web of fibrous tissue that permeates the body, but is it really the “Cinderella Tissue” that new age therapists, Rolfers, and yoga instructors suggest? The fascial system is still a medical mystery. But that could soon change, thanks to an unlikely alliance between researchers and alternative therapists.
Rolfing changes lives
Rolfing gives you a greater awareness of your body and how it works. You are encouraged to sit, stand, walk and breathe differently, and to change your relationship with your environment.
Rolfing, Excruciatingly Helpful
Rolfing is experiencing something of a resurgence, especially among younger city dwellers for whom the novelty of yoga has worn off, and who are now seeking more intense ways to relieve the stresses of modern life.
What is Rolfing – and can it fix my running injuries?
If physiotherapy, acupuncture or massage isn’t doing it for you, this technique – that focuses on correcting the positioning of the myofascial layers in your body – might be worth a try.
Back In Style
The experience of being rolfed is primarily a painless one, though it feels less soothing and sleepy-making than it does like sub-dermal hygiene. Occasionally it becomes intense.
Cryotherapy, DNA testing: four new wellbeing trends
Move over massage, it’s time to welcome Rolfing. Developed in the mid-20th century by Ida Rolf, this is a hands-on process used for the treatment of injuries and chronic pain.
Fascia: The Secret Organ
The amazing thing is that fascia is only now being medically recognized for its importance in maintaining a healthy, fit, toned, calm, and aligned body. In fact, it wasn’t until 2007 that the first international Fascia Research Congress was held at Harvard Medical School, bringing a new awareness to the importance of the fascial webbing system. These days, “myofascial release” has become a bit of a buzzword in the fitness and wellness communities:
Gwyneth Paltrow is right: there is a "secret organ" you've been ignoring
So, unsurprisingly, Paltrow overreaches with her claims that fascial therapy can fix anything that's wrong with the body — even shortness. Fascia may not be an organ. It may not be a secret, or the holy grail of body pain. But she's right to highlight an interesting area of scientific inquiry.
Rolfing 1.01
If someone had told me, before I tried it, that bobbling my head would help my hip I would have thought they were crazy.
Staying Fit: Yoga, Rolfing and the Elusive Cinderella Tissues
What is the most plentiful tissue in the body — and the most ignored? The answer is fascia — the gooey, gliding stuff that holds you together. Fascia is a broad term for the extracellular matrix of fibers, “glue” and water surrounding all your cells, and wrapping like plastic wrap around muscle fibers and muscles, organs, bones, blood vessels and nerves — and finally as a second skin around your entire body.
Tailoring’ the muscles
Rolfing - a technique of manipulating connective tissue - is a growing practice.
