Eliminate Fibroids and Eliminate an Incision
If you have fibroids and have been told that hysterectomy is your only option, it is worth asking your doctor if you are a candidate for hysteroscopic myomectomy. If he or she doesn’t seem familiar with the procedure, or doesn’t offer it, a second opinion is in order.
Fertility Specialists Can Skip Routine Hysteroscopy Prior to IVF Treatment
Many experts now regard transvaginal ultrasound as the best diagnostic imaging modality for most gynecologic diseases including diseases of the uterine cavity such as uterine anomalies, endometrial polyps, and leiomyomata. In women with normal transvaginal ultrasound imaging of the uterus, routine hysteroscopy is unlikely to improve IVF outcomes.
Hysteroscopy Polypectomy With MyoSure ~ A Personal Account
The MyoSure procedure is a new and innovative treatment that enables incision-less, fast removal of submucosal fibroids and polyps as well as providing effective relief of abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB). MyoSure is an ideal treatment option for women of all ages seeking to preserve uterine form and function.
Hysterectomy vs Hysteroscopy
Hysteroscopy is a much less invasive procedure than hysterectomy. Patients fully recover within a week or two. For most women, it is completely effective in treating dysfunctional bleeding, painful fibroids, and other problems. In many cases, the procedure can be done under a local anesthetic, and the woman can go home that same day. There may be some minor vaginal bleeding for a day or two. Sports and sexual activity may need to be avoided for a few days after the procedure.
Hysteroscopy: Whooby-Whaty?
During a hysteroscopy, the Drs will insert the hysteroscope past your cervix and into your uterus to look for anything that would implicate difficulties in conceiving. Then, in a Chuck Norris fashion, they remove these malevolent entities and leave your uterus squeaky clean for the next, hopefully successful, round of IVF, IUI, or whatever conception method you are working with.
BUPA
A hysteroscopy is a procedure that allows a gynaecologist to look inside your womb using a narrow tube-like telescopic camera called a hysteroscope. It can be used to help find out what is causing your symptoms, for example if you have heavy periods. Your gynaecologist can also takes samples of tissue and treat certain conditions during a hysteroscopy procedure.
Daily Nation
Hysteroscopy used for diagnosis is usually done as an outpatient procedure. This means you don’t need to stay in hospital overnight and may not need anaesthesia.
International Medical Hospital
Hysteroscopy may be either diagnostic or operative. One of the most common uses for hysteroscopy is to find the cause of abnormal uterine bleeding. Abnormal bleeding can mean that a woman’s menstrual periods are heavier or longer than usual or occur less often or more often than normal. Bleeding between menstrual periods also is abnormal.
NHS Choices
A hysteroscopy can be used to: •investigate symptoms or problems – such as heavy periods, unusual vaginal bleeding, postmenopausal bleeding, pelvic pain, repeated miscarriages or difficulty getting pregnant •diagnose conditions – such as fibroids and polyps (non-cancerous growths in the womb) •treat conditions and problems – such as removing fibroids, polyps, displaced intrauterine devices (IUDs) and intrauterine adhesions (scar tissue that causes absent periods and reduced fertility).
Private Practice
Many gynecologists will use the hysteroscope to inspect the lining of the uterus and look for intrauterine pathology such as fibroids or polyps that may be causing irregular or heavy menstrual bleeding. Assessment of the cavity is also performed for women having difficulty becoming pregnant. Other conditions suitable for hysteroscopy include •Removal of endometrial or cervical polyps •Removal of fibroids •Biopsy of the endometrial lining
Stirrup Queens
Hysteroscopy allows your doctor to envision the uterine lining using fiber optics, after pumping the womb full of sterile air or fluid. She can then easily detect any irregularities. Septums, uterine polyps (benign overgrowths of the lining), and some fibroids can be carefully removed. Hysteroscopy is considered the gold-standard treatment for growths like polyps, which are too often missed during blind D&Cs.
