We live in Carl Sagan’s universe–awesomely vast, deeply humbling. It’s a universe that, as Sagan reminded us again and again, isn’t about us. We’re a granular element. Our presence may even be ephemeral—a flash of luminescence in a great dark ocean. Or perhaps we are here to stay, somehow finding a way to transcend our worst instincts and ancient hatreds, and eventually become a galactic species. CASE Medicine

The Centre for Altitude Space and Extreme Environment Medicine (CASE Medicine) was founded in 2000 and is comprised of a group of clinicians and scientists who have specialist interests in the effects of extreme environments on the human body.

Center for Space Medicine

The Center for Space Medicine emphasizes discovery and innovation in high-priority areas of space biomedical science and technology. The center fosters biomedical discovery, advances the field of space medicine, trains scientists and physicians and translates space advances to benefit health on Earth. It is a collaborative enterprise involving multiple Baylor College of Medicine departments and centers, the National Space Biomedical Research Institute, NASA, Rice University, Texas Medical Center institutions, and other national and international academic, industry and government organizations.

The CSM focuses on both the facilitation of human space exploration and the improvement of quality of life on Earth through open innovation and cross-disciplinary application of techniques and technology.
