Meet The Healthcare Startup That Crowdfunds Medical Expenses
CrowdHealth is not insurance. For their $50 monthly payments, members get a team of personal bargain hunters. A third party hustles to slash their medical and prescription bills, often by 30%, just by knowing the true cost of medical care after backing out the insurance companies’ cut and offering to pay providers quickly in cash. Schoonover says that most doctors are in favor of ditching the insurance middleman, but, he admits, not everyone’s on board. There’s been some pushback, particularly in the Northeast, though he claims it’s mostly not a dealbreaker for prospective customers in that region. “Ventures like this work until they don’t,” Larry Levitt, executive vice president for health…

They Hated Health Insurance. So They Started Paying For Each Other’s Care.
What draws people to CrowdHealth is deep discontent with the U.S. health insurance system. The share of Americans who said that the quality of health care in the U.S. is excellent or good—44%—is the lowest since at least 2001, according to a December Gallup poll.

Health Insurance Alternative...
Health Care Sharing is NOT Insurance. Health Care Sharing is considered an alternative to traditional health insurance because it operates on a fundamentally different model based on community sharing of medical expenses rather than being a formal insurance product. Health Care Sharing uses a community to share the cost of medical bills. It is not governed by Insurance laws. They are sometimes run as Faith based Non-Profits. They are generally lower cost. They do not cover everything. You are responsible for most checkups and bills under a certain threshold. For Crowd health it is $500.
Our Founder’s Story
I'm Andy, the founder of CrowdHealth, and I've seen firsthand the failures of the health insurance system. Years ago, my daughter battled recurring ear infections and a ruptured eardrum. After a necessary, albeit quick, procedure, I was slapped with an $8,000 bill. Our insurance company refused to pay, deeming it "medically unnecessary." Despite doing everything right, the insurance I had trusted in left us high and dry when we needed it most. That's when I realized the system was broken and decided to create CrowdHealth, a more compassionate and reliable alternative to pay for healthcare.

CrowdHealth
Traditional health insurance is often impersonal and unreliable, with twisted incentives. At CrowdHealth, we're changing the narrative. We treat our members like family, assisting them on their health journey, and managing their bills at an affordable cost. We're creating a system where the focus is on keeping our members healthy, rather than profiting from their illnesses. Our goal is to redefine the meaning of "healthcare" in our society. The sad truth is, each year, 250,000 people with insurance declare bankruptcy due to medical bills. It's a clear sign that the existing system isn't working and serves to benefit the pockets of the medical industrial complex. Frustrated with the lack of justifiable reasons, I've stopped seeking answers and decided to build a better solution. And that’s what CrowdHealth is all about.
