The Three Eras of Golf
The game of golf has dramatically evolved from a game played with hickory shafts and gutta perch golf balls to massive titanium metal composites and surlyn covered golf balls, has the evolution been a good thing?
I believe that golf has gone through three distinct eras, with each of these eras defined by the equipment of their times. The three eras are: hickory, steel, and "metal." The first two refer to shafts, while the third refers to the heads of drivers. Golfing regularly could be a hole-in-one for older adults' health
Regularly golfing, at least once per month, was found to lower the risk of death among older adults. While the protective effects of playing golf have not been linked to reduction of heart attack and stroke risk, researchers note the positive effects of exercise and social interaction for older adults unable to participate in more strenuous exercise.
To Keep Fit for Golf, He Gives His Dogs a Lift
Mr. Kulak has embraced a home workout to enhance his golf. To train mind and body, he performs one minute of vertical jumps, then attempts to sink 10 4-foot putts in a row in a two-minute period. Sometimes he drapes one of his two labradoodles over his shoulders and will perform pistol squats, where he keeps one leg straight out in front as he squats down on the opposite leg. The dogs are 29 pounds each.
What Your Golf Swing Says About Your Overall Health
How's your golf game? The answer may tell you a lot about your health. While golfers often focus on improving their swing and lowering their scores, sports-medicine researchers and golf-industry experts increasingly are focusing on the links between golf and health. They are finding that everything from the quality of your swing to the yards you get from your drive can provide telling insights into your overall fitness and health. The good news is that a few simple steps to boost your health can also improve your game.

Golf and Wellness: Enjoy Your Health in Full Swing
Surely, one can perceive a golf course as a “challenge course” with sand bunkers, water obstacles, trees, thick grass, wind & rain to try your patience... Yet, the real challenge is not outside, it is within. The purpose of golf is not merely to « hit a small ball without touching the giant ball underneath »... It is a relentless invitation to find one’s pace through life, one’s swing, clearing one’s mind from its chatter, energizing the body with enhanced flexibility & muscle tone, while strengthening & pacifying one’s heart, with reduced stress and anxiety.

Golf Tech: New Fitness Bands Bring Health & Accuracy To The Golf Course
But the new golf fitness bands do much more, using GPS to take the place of larger, bulkier devices already popular with golfers. Yet by functioning as a normal fitness band, they also work every day off the course. In short, if you play golf (or know someone who does) and have any interest or reason to wear a fitness band anyway, these new devices really can do it all.
Golf: the neuroscience of the perfect putt
Golfers carry 14 clubs, but the putter is by far the most used, accounting for around 41% of shots. Successfully striking the 1.68-inch diameter golf ball into the 4.25-inch golf hole requires precision programming of force and direction. My research has identified a type of “brainwave”, produced by electrical pulses resulting from brain cells communicating with each other, that can predict golfing success.

No surprise: Golf can be good for your health
It's easy to enjoy the scenery as you walk the first hole on the Vineyard Course at River Ridge G.C. (Oleg Volovik/Golf Advisor) We all know exercise is good for your health, even a moderate amount. It would make sense, then, that golf is good for your health, generally speaking. Of course, if you're a golfer who smokes and/or drinks on the course, that might be debatable.
