The triathlon would be a lot more fun if you didn’t have to get wet. That was Steve Sievert’s thinking after his first swim-bike-run event in 1986. Despite not being an efficient swimmer, he captured first in his age group and liked the challenge of combining athletic disciplines. The next year, he discovered the duathlon, a run-bike-run race. “I think of the ‘du’ as the multisport endurance pursuit of choice for land mammals who love the challenge of training for multiple sports but would rather keep their feet dry,” he jokes.
