Cerebrovascular Disease
Stroke and neurovascular conditions are a significant challenge in modern day medicine. While we know a great deal about the causes of these conditions, they are exceptionally difficult to diagnose during routine medical care. As such, when stoke and neurovascular conditions do arise, they are usually very sudden and often life-threatening or debilitating - Western Neuro

Vascular Neurosurgery: Technological Innovation Where Every Minute Counts
Cerebrovascular disorders often come with grave consequences. Treatment of these disorders has undergone a dramatic transformation and technological advancements in recent years. Since the time of Walter E. Dandy, MD, the specialty of neurosurgery has attracted some of the most technically skilled neurosurgeons, determined to change the course cerebrovascular disease through complex surgical approaches. Technological breakthroughs including advances in imaging and devices, particularly minimally-invasive techniques, have changed the face of the specialty forever. These developments broadened the tools at the disposal of a modern neurovascular neurosurgeon to include minimally invasive approaches…

A Look into the Crystal Ball: Future Directions in Cerebrovascular Neurosurgery
As the saying goes, “It is difficult to make predictions, especially about the future.” While the past is not necessarily a clear guide for our future, over the past 90 years, dramatic progress has been made in the field of cerebrovascular neurosurgery.
Cerebrovascular disease in women
Cerebrovascular disease differentially impacts women, with several unique risk factors and management considerations. Equitable representation of women in clinical trials, improved screening during periods of increased risk, recognition of sex-specific risk factors, and implementation of specific up-to-date guidelines for cerebrovascular disease management in women are necessary to reduce stroke incidence and improve outcomes.
Pediatric Cerebrovascular Disease
Cerebrovascular disease, also called neurovascular disease, refers to a group of disorders that affect the flow of blood to the brain. In these disorders, the brain may not be able to get enough oxygen and nutrients due to limited blood supply. In some cases, there may be bleeding in the brain that also disrupts the blood flow.
Pediatric Neurovascular Disease: Finding a Better Way
Though they are relatively rare, pediatric vascular anomalies profoundly affect our patients’ lives. Children with neurovascular diseases pose particular challenges in diagnosis and treatment. Children are not “just little adults,” and vascular pathology in the pediatric population is distinctly different from adults, which requires a tailored approach to diagnosis and management. Just consider these challenges, to name only a few in dealing with this patient population:
Vascular Neurosurgery: Patients First + Scientific Progress = Improving Outcomes
We are amazed at how this field has truly transformed before our eyes. We are privileged both to bear witness to this amazing improvement of our capabilities to help our patients and also see neurosurgeons from all areas coming together to contribute to advancing this field forward.
Vascular Neurosurgery: Technological Innovation Where Every Minute Counts
Cerebrovascular neurosurgeons treat some of the most challenging diseases of the central nervous system, often under tremendous time pressure.
Journal of Stroke & Cerebrovascular Diseases
The Journal of Stroke & Cerebrovascular Diseases publishes original papers on basic and clinical science related to the fields of stroke and cerebrovascular diseases. The Journal also features review articles, controversies, methods and technical notes, selected case reports and other original articles of special nature.
American Association of Neurological Surgeons
The term cerebrovascular disease includes all disorders in which an area of the brain is temporarily or permanently affected by ischemia or bleeding and one or more of the cerebral blood vessels are involved in the pathological process. Cerebrovascular disease includes stroke, carotid stenosis, vertebral stenosis and intracranial stenosis, aneurysms, and vascular malformations.
Cleveland Clinic
Cerebrovascular disease is an umbrella term for conditions that impact the blood vessels in your brain. “Cerebro” refers to your brain and “vascular” refers to your blood vessels (arteries and veins).
