Laser Lipolysis
Lasers are cool and high tech, right? So adding a laser to liposuction should make it cooler, or higher tech, or something better--right? Maybe not - Jacob Goldstein

Can Laser Lipo Actually Help You Lose Fat?
Any device that promises fast fat loss without surgery sounds like something that falls into the same category as diet pills, cellulite creams, and waist trainers—interventions that rarely (if ever) live up to their bold claims. Still, if you know someone who swears by laser lipo, a laser fat-removal procedure, you might at least want to do a little digging to find out if they're full of it. Low-level laser or "laser lipo" therapy promises a less invasive alternative to liposuction for targeting areas of fat. Instead of going under the knife, it involves laser treatments that last about 30 minutes, typically about three times per week for a total of six to eight. Another major difference,…

Body of Evidence: Popular Laser Treatment To Remove Fat Draws Skepticism
Body-conscious Americans are flocking to a new, more-expensive liposuction technique, but there's scant evidence that it works any better than tried-and-true surgical body sculpting.
Laser Lipolysis: An Update
Laser lipolysis is now a commonly used and accepted modality for removal of unwanted fatty tissue. Since its United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval in October of 2006,1 studies have continued to corroborate early clinical observations of decreased adiposity, shorter recovery times, and improved skin tightening.

Understanding Laser Lipo: How Does Laser Liposuction Really Work?
While the benefits of Laser Liposuction have been observed in many medical studies, researchers are still exploring exactly how Laser Lipo works. Although we still have a lot to learn about the effects of light energy on different types of cells, the leading theory is that Laser Lipo helps to remove fat by creating transient pores in adipocytes, allowing lipids to leak out.
Warning about Laser Liposuction
Lately, there has been a lot of press about a "new" technique called "Laser Liposuction", sold under a number of clever brand names, including SmartLipo™ (who would want "dumb lipo"?) and the ironically-named CoolLipo™. Unfortunately, these machines have been introduced primarily as marketing tools without any evidence that they are superior to standard liposuction. (When they say "FDA approved", they mean that the FDA has evaluated them for safety and similarity to other, already approved machines, not for efficacy, and certainly not for superiority to another technique.) However, I am starting to see patients in my practice who have been harmed by them, and it is time to share my concerns.
CoolSculpting vs Laser Liposuction
Both remove fat cells; CoolSculpting without any incisions and laser lipo with a few. Both are fat loss techniques only, so neither will make you lose weight. Also, neither of these are a substitute for a healthy lifestyle of good diet and exercise.
Different Types of Laser Liposuction
As the name would suggest, laser lipo (or laser-assisted liposuction) uses a laser to melt subcutaneous fat before it is suctioned from the body. Laser liposuction is often considered to be safer, gentler, and less invasive method of fat removal as compared to traditional methods. This is due to the use of local anesthesia and small instruments, which makes for little to no downtime.
Laser Liposuction – How Does It Really Work
Laser liposuction is very different from traditional liposuction. Instead of surgery, a device will be used which heats the fat cells to the point where they die. In the case of normal liposuction, the surgeon may inject instruments into a layer of fat and use a tube to bust fat cells and suction them out. Comparatively, recovery from surgical liposuction takes way more time than laser treatment. Laser liposuction is the most common form of cosmetic surgical treatment in the United States. It has shown promising fat reduction results with a lower risk rate compared to liposuction and is an ideal body contouring procedure. Since 2020, liposuction treatment, including other procedures like botox, has been considered to be the most commonly conducted cosmetic surgery.
Liposuction vs Laser Lipo: What Makes Laser Liposuction Different?
Compared to traditional liposuction methods, laser liposuction offers a gentler approach. Instead of using vigorous mechanical movements to break up fat, the laser delicately moves back and forth to heat up the targeted area. This is not only less invasive, but it controls heating and minimizes trauma to surrounding tissues, resulting in a faster recovery time and potentially less bruising. Overall, this cosmetic procedure offers a more comfortable experience than traditional lipo.
Lyposuction Hype?
Laser-assisted liposuction, which liquefies body fat with light prior to its removal, is said to minimize bruising, swelling, and recovery time. But doctors in Chile have questioned this pricier procedure, also called SmartLipo. They reviewed the cases of 25 women who had both laser-assisted and regular liposuction. Although postoperative pain was slightly less with the laser, operating time was longer.

As more individuals seek effective body sculpting solutions, laser liposuction continues to rise in demand.
Traditional Liposuction vs Laser Liposuction: Which Is Right for You?
Laser liposuction introduces a more advanced approach to body sculpting, utilizing specialized technology designed exclusively for laser-assisted lipolysis. Beyond fat removal, laser liposuction offers the added advantage of skin tightening, a feature not present in traditional liposuction. High-energy laser beams penetrate the skin, heating inner structures and stimulating collagen and elastin growth for enhanced skin function and appearance over time. The laser liposuction process involves making a small incision, through which a thin tube containing the smart lipo laser fiber is inserted into targeted fatty areas.
Tumescent Liposuction vs. Laser Liposuction
Tumescent liposuction is a type of liposuction that involves injecting a large volume of tumescent solution into the treatment area before the fat is removed. The tumescent solution contains a local anesthetic and a vasoconstrictor, allowing it to numb the treatment area and minimize bleeding during the procedure. Laser liposuction, also known as laser-assisted liposuction or laser lipolysis, involves the use of a laser to melt excess fat. The laser is inserted through a small incision in the skin, and the heat from the laser melts the fat, which is then suctioned out through a cannula.
What Happened When I Tried Laser Liposuction
Here is the story of how I accidentally got liposuction. Well, it was technically a form of laser liposuction. Not familiar? Yeah, neither was I, so let me explain.
