LEDs and EMFs: What you Need to Know
We wanted to learn more about EMFs generally, and learn whether our wi-fi, Internet of Things and cellphones are actually harming us. But we were especially curious as to how EMFs relate to LED lights: we use LEDs in our home and espouse the values of these super efficient lighting options across our network and in our lives. So we did some digging on this controversial topic. And what we found was… shockingly inconclusive.
Could we be Wrong about EMFs?
Before we dive too deeply, I want to first discuss my thoughts on this.
While concerns about EMFs can seem a bit irrational– the topic is considered a fringe concern, or one that is ‘just in your…

Apocalypse now: wifi and radiation sickness sweeping the world
In 2006, two researchers, Hallberg and Oberfeld, published a terrifying forecast in the journal Electromagnetic Biology and Medicine asking “Will we all become electrosensitive?”. The researchers extrapolated figures from 17 reports published in 1985-2004 from nine countries to estimate how many people by 2017 would be sensitive to electromagnetic radiation from common household appliances, including mobile phones, and environmental exposures like power lines, and TV, phone and radio transmission masts. According to their calculations, by now, half the world’s population would be suffering from electrosensitivity. That’s around 3.75 billion people, surely the biggest plague ever to affect the world. And if we continue their extrapolation for a few more years, the researchers will have answered their own original question.
How Big Wireless Made Us Think That Cell Phones Are Safe: A Special Investigation
This article does not argue that cell phones and other wireless technologies are necessarily dangerous; that is a matter for scientists to decide. Rather, the focus here is on the global industry behind cell phones—and the industry’s long campaign to make people believe that cell phones are safe.

EMF: Pollution You Don't See or Smell
Currently, there is still no definitive evidence showing that long-term exposure to EMF is or is not hazardous to our health. But by the time the evidence is clear, it may be too late for many of us. The best option is to reduce exposure by minimizing use and keeping your distance. When it comes to protective devices, home modulation systems are worth looking into. At the very least, consider tossing out your cordless phones. Or better yet go live in a cave, although even in there, radon may still get you.
Mobile Phone Use and Cancer: Searching for Answers
It is perhaps the most controversial scientific question of the last two decades. Does mobile phone use cause cancer?
17 Ways to Minimize Exposure to Dirty Electricity & EMFs
Electricity was originally introduced to the mass population in the form of a long-lasting, practical light bulb by Edison. In just over a century, electricity has brought with it an incredible range of technological innovations. But this technological tale is not totally a happy one. While we lead more convenient lives, our modern-day electric gadgets may be silently harming… and even killing us. It turns out they emit “dirty electricity” and electromagnetic frequencies (EMFs).
Airport Scanners: Trading One Hazard for Another?
One of the 'hottest' issues in worldwide air travel security is the use of the so-called full body scanners. So, are airport scanners safe or not?
Cellphone Boom Spurs Antenna-Safety Worries
One in 10 sites violates the rules, according to six engineers who examined more than 5,000 sites during safety audits for carriers and local municipalities, underscoring a safety lapse in the network that makes cellphones hum, at a time when the health effects of antennas are being debated world-wide.
CFLs and EMF (Compact Fluorescent Bulbs and Electro-magnetic Fields)
One criticism leveled against CFLs is that they generate harmful electromagnetic fields (EMF). I looked into this and while there's no question that CFLs generate EMF (as do all electric appliances), it's less clear that there's actually a health risk.
Debate Continues on Hazards of Electromagnetic Waves
Everywhere in the modern world, the throb of alternating current generates electromagnetic waves — from the television, the blender, the light bulbs, the wires in the wall. Because the oscillations are very slow (just 60 hertz, or cycles per second), this type of radiation is called “extremely low-frequency.” It was long thought harmless because it is too weak to knock out electrons and directly damage molecules in the body. But on July 11, 1989, Science Times reported the uncomfortable possibility that this ubiquitous background radiation might cause cancer.
Do High Voltage Power Lines Cause Cancer?
This could be a very short article. I could just write “no, power lines don’t cause cancer"—but that wouldn't explain why so many people believe otherwise. And it won’t help people who are thinking about buying a home that has power lines nearby. So let’s look at this question a bit more closely.
Don’t Fly Planes with Wi-Fi Says EMF Health Advocate
Avoid airlines with in-flight wireless, says EMF health advocate Camilla Rees, who notes an airline is a “metal cage” and is “an especially high risk environment for radiation.”
Electromagnetic Fields at Work Show No Brain Tumor Risk
A new study finds no significant correlation between workplace exposure to radio frequency (RF) or intermediate frequency (IF) electromagnetic waves and the most common brain tumors. This is more reassuring evidence that non-ionizing EMFs are probably safe.
Health Risks from EMF Exposures
Harm from EMF exposure is real and something we should all be aware of. Currently, it's not a concern for the majority of people, but in the years to come the risks will be as common knowledge as those from smoking cigarettes or drug taking.
Health risks linked to electromagnetic field exposure
A study of real-world exposure to non-ionizing radiation from magnetic fields in pregnant women found a significantly higher rate of miscarriage, providing new evidence regarding their potential health risks.
How The Human Body Creates Electromagnetic Fields
Not only is it possible that the human body creates EM fields — it is the only way you can possibly exist as a coherent entity! You are an electric field — a giant electric field which holds your atoms together, and which uses other electric fields to talk to other bits of yourself.
Invisible Hazards: State of the Science on EMF Health Impacts and Next Steps for Policy Change
As wireless technologies, particularly cellphones, become ever more ubiquitous in our culture and communication systems, researchers have been asking the question: what, if any, impact is there from this technology on our health? Research has been conducted investigating links with cancer, reproductive health, fetal development, children's health, and electromagnetic sensitivities, among other concerns. We also encounter lower frequency electromagnetic fields produced by power lines, electrical wiring, and electrical equipment.
Is EMF exposure and EMR Dangerous?
If you are meticulous about your health or believe in the possible risk, you should seek out EMR shielding products. Many EMR enthusiasts have measurement tools to be more aware of their environments and to read the devices they use.
Is EMF Exposure Really a Big Deal?
Every one of us is now exposed to unprecedented levels of man-made EMFs. The safety of EMF exposure is controversial because there are the pro-technology people who believe that these artificially created EMFs are completely safe. On the other hand, studies are emerging to demonstrate that EMFs, including non-ionizing ones, may be unsafe.

Myths vs. Facts: The Truth about Smart Meters
Misunderstanding advanced technology can lead to the emergence of urban legends. The case is no different with smart meters, which utilities are rolling out across the country in an effort to bring the benefits of a modernized electric grid to consumers like you. The following are the most commonly circulated smart meter myths. Our responses, each supported by research, offer the facts — the real deal on smart meters.
No, we’re not all being pickled in deadly radiation from smartphones and wifi
As exponential improvements in technology improve the lifestyles and well-being of the world’s population, we seem destined to witness an inexorable parallel rise in fear-mongering about these benefits.
Nonsense about the Health Effects of Electromagnetic Radiation
There is a widespread belief that low energy electromagnetic radiation fields can cause a wide variety of health issues. Fortunately, there is no convincing evidence that such fears are warranted.
Smart meters are about as dangerous as …
In any event, it strikes the present authors that the proponents of the anti-smart meter movement are, at the least, being highly inconsistent. If they truly believe their health is at risk from microwave exposure via smart meter broadcasts, they should immediately cease using cell phones (including smart phones and iPads), and should not permit anyone to carry or use such a device on their property. For that matter, such persons should avoid any public place, including grocery stores or restaurants, where someone might use a cell phone, or where a WiFi hotspot might be in operation.
The Health Concerns in Wearable Tech
Dr. Joseph Mercola, a physician who focuses on alternative medicine and has written extensively about the potential harmful effects of cellphones on the human body, said that as long as a wearable does not have a 3G connection built into it, the harmful effects are minimal, if any. “The radiation really comes from the 3G connection on a cellphone, so devices like the Jawbone Up and Apple Watch should be O.K.
The Man Who Was Allergic to Radio Waves
Your cellphone does not in itself cause cancer. But in the daily sea of radiation we all travel, there may be subtler dangers at work, and science is only just beginning to understand how they can come to affect people like Per Segerbäck so intensely.
Toxic Risks of Electromagnetic Fields: The Health Impacts of Smart Meters
In 2012, environmental health Professor David Carpenter, founder of Albany School of Public Health, and author of 370 peer-reviewed publications, issued a public letter on the plausible toxic risks of intensive, pulsed-microwave smart metering. His letter Smart-meters: Correcting the Gross Misinformation was signed by 50 international health experts...

WHO
The use of electricity has become an integral part of everyday life. Whenever electricity flows, both electric and magnetic fields exist close to the lines that carry electricity, and close to appliances. Since the late 1970s, questions have been raised whether exposure to these extremely low frequency (ELF) electric and magnetic fields (EMF) produces adverse health consequences. Since then, much research has been done, successfully resolving important issues and narrowing the focus of future research.
