Glucose
Glucose is one of the fundamental molecules of life on Earth, the product of photosynthesis of solar energy stored in plants. Glucose is found either as a simple monosaccharide or as a constitutive unit of more complex molecules such as starch and the cellulose in fruit and vegetables, or glycogen in humans and animals. At the crossroads of energy metabolism, glucose can be considered to be the source of energy for our cells.

Everything You Need to Know About Glucose
So what is glucose, exactly? It’s the simplest type of carbohydrate (carb), making it a monosaccharide, meaning “one sugar.” Other monosaccharides include fructose, galactose, and ribose. In this form, dietary glucose and other carbohydrates eventually convert to blood glucose in the body.
How the body produces glucose when we are fasting
The gluconeogenesis pathway synthesises new glucose using non-carbohydrate precursors (glycerol from the breakdown of triglycerides, lactate during anaerobic glycolysis and amino acids from muscle protein degradation). 90% of gluconeogenesis occurs in the liver but some occurs in the kidney too.
The Glucose Goddess Review - Are Her 7 Hacks Legit?
Inchauspé is a biochemist with a large following on Instagram, a personal ‘sickness to health’ story (about her glucose, naturally), and some theories about glucose spikes. Predictably, this all adds up to a big book deal: her book Glucose Revolution was just released a couple of months ago. Now, everyone is talking about the Glucose Goddess hacks, such as deconstructing sandwiches to eat the vegetables first so our blood sugars won’t spike.
What Is Glucose? An In-Depth Guide
Yes, glucose is a monosaccharide, also known as a simple sugar, because it’s a carbohydrate in its simplest form: it can’t be broken down any further. Fructose is also a monosaccharide that’s most often found in fruits, root vegetables, and honey. By comparison, sucrose — aka table sugar — is a disaccharide made up of one glucose molecule and one fructose molecule (that has to be broken down before your body can use it for fuel). Thus, foods that are high in sucrose are also going to be high in glucose.
What is the difference between Glucose & Dextrose?
Glucose and dextrose are basically the same thing. The names “Glucose” and “Dextrose” are often used interchangeably. Formally known as Dextrose Monohydrate or D-Glucose, dextrose is the most common type of glucose.

Glucose is a 6-carbon structure with the chemical formula C6H12O6. It is a ubiquitous source of energy for every organism in the world and is essential to fuel both aerobic and anaerobic cellular respiration. Glucose often enters the body in isometric forms such as galactose and fructose (monosaccharides), lactose and sucrose (disaccharides), or starch (polysaccharide).
