What are the different types of sugars?

Many of us are familiar with common sugar types we purchase from the supermarket. Raw sugar, brown sugar, white sugar, castor sugar and icing sugar can all be found in our pantries. When it comes to nutrition, sugars from all sources are digested in the same way and provide a similar amount of energy, or kilojoules.
