How Your Boobs Are Supposed to Feel
The look and feel of breasts are as varied as woman herself. Not all of us can have Kim Kardashian's perfectly soft, clouds-made-of-cheesecake tits. Some of us sag; some of us are more stretch mark than human; some of us look like a sack of potatoes if we wear the wrong shirt. But how can you tell whether the lumps in your breasts are actually a threat to your health? How lumpy is too lumpy? There is an incredibly common condition where women's breasts can feel like a beanbag chair or a ball of twine

Taking The Dis-Ease Out Of Fibrocystic Breasts
Contrary to popular belief, having fibrocystic breasts does not increase your risk of breast cancer. However, not all types of fibrocystic changes are the same. Women with breast changes associated with atypical hyperplasia (atypia) do have a slightly increased risk of breast cancer compared to the general population. Atypia is defined as the appearance and overgrowth of cells lining breast lobules and ducts and and is often diagnosed following a breast biopsy to evaluate an abnormality found on mammogram or during a clinical breast exam.

Fibrocystic changes are the most common form of breast lumps in women age 30 to 50. The condition is benign (non-cancerous). Physicians in our practice do not like to refer to this as “fibrocystic disease” since it occurs in over 50% of women in this age group. We like to refer to it as “fibrocystic change.”
Natural Approaches to Fibrocystic Breasts
Tender or lumpy breasts are one of the most common reasons why women consult their gynecologists for assessment and treatment. Since painful breasts are not always lumpy, and lumpy breasts are not always painful (and neither is usually abnormal), it is useful to create descriptive categories of symptoms and conditions to replace the generic term “fibrocystic”.
