So many emotions will flood your mind, and you may see your life pass in front of your eyes. Over the days, weeks, months and years, you finally realize that this is now your life.

Many people only see a doctor when they become sick with a cold, flu, a broken bone or a sprained muscle,.  Some may never visit a doctor. Their pain will be acute, and once the cause is treated, the pain will leave. The medicine they take will only be for a short time. However, those with a chronic illness have lives that are filled with doctor’s visits, medicines, tests,…

Behçet's (bay-setz) syndrome is a rare disease that causes inflammation of many parts of the body. These include the skin of the genital area, lining of the mouth, eye, nervous system, joints and blood vessels. The most characteristic problems include ulcers in the mouth and genital areas, and serious eye inflammation. It is also called Behçet's syndrome.

National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases

Behçet’s (Beh-CHETS or Beh-SHETS) disease is an illness that causes symptoms in various parts of the body. The more common symptoms include sores in the mouth and on the genitals (sex organs). More serious symptoms can include inflammation (swelling, heat, redness, and pain) in the eyes and other parts of the body. Because it may take months or even years for all the common symptoms to appear, the diagnosis may not be made for a long time.

NHS

Behçet's disease, or Behçet's syndrome, is a rare and poorly understood condition that results in inflammation of the blood vessels and tissues. Confirming a diagnosis of Behçet's disease can be difficult because the symptoms are so wide-ranging and general (they can be shared with a number of other conditions).

The Doctor's Doctor

Behcet disease is a rare disorder characterized by recurrent oral and genital ulceration, eye lesions, and multiple skin lesions. The first modern description was in the 1930s by a Turkish dermatologist, Hulusi Behcet, who noted the triad of aphthous oral ulcers, genital lesions, and recurrent eye inflammation. A recent consensus conference identified several criteria to establish the diagnosis.
